Cathie Brazell
M.S. - Health Administration
Previous Degrees:
B.S. - Florida Southern College
Profession:
Administrator, Obstetrical Services - Orlando, FL

Over half of Cathie Brazell's years of experience in obstetrics were in management and she dreamed of earning a Master's degree someday. "With a more than fulltime job, especially in the field of having babies, and with a husband and three sons taking my precious time," she says. "I knew that I couldn't get my master's completed in a traditional way. It had to be in a way that was flexible and allowed me to work it into my schedule, rather than the other way around."
She found the Kennedy-Western University program to be an efficient use of her time. "It allowed me to work on my studies at times that were convenient for me and my family," she recalls. "I found that the workload was manageable and meaningful. That was important to me."
Jane Ellis Dias
M.S. - Health Administration
Profession:
Director - Woodbury, NJ

Registered nurse and healthcare manager Jane Dias qualified for the combined B.S. / M.S. degree program in Health Administration at Kennedy-Western University. "I was so energized," she recalls, "but I was also so-o-o scared!" Her husband and many of her coworkers and friends encouraged her to do it, so she did.
"For twenty years in nursing, I was always in positions that required a bachelor's degree and preferred master's," says Jane, "So I was always challenging those documents. I was born in Scotland and completed my nursing education there. I took on the combined degree to prove to myself and others that I could do it and I knew it would give me additional credibility in my profession."
Beth Gregory
Ph.D. - Health Administration
Previous Degrees:
M.A. - University of Alabama at Birmingham
B.S. - University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa
Profession:
Vice President, Education and Training - Birmingham, AL

As she worked for Montclair Recovery Programs, Program Director Beth Gregory found herself alone in marketing and program development and she decided that satisfying a long-term goal would allow her to gain the information she wanted and earn a Ph.D. degree. "I wanted a greater scope of current information on administrative issues," she says. "I looked at programs that wouldn't cost a fortune and ones that had a curriculum that was not strictly research and theory. Research is not my first love."
She was working fulltime and couldn't stop her employment to go back to school, so the Kennedy-Western University approach to self-paced, flexible learning fit right in. "I know how highly motivated I am when I set my mind to something I want," she admits. "I don't need structure, I don't need weekly reminders of the work to be done and I don't need a professor pushing me."
